Movie Review - Satyagraha
Cast-Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpai, Amrita Rao
Director - Prakash Jha
Stars - 3.5/5
Satyagraha the name itself suggest a movie based on social and political conflict.Prakash Jha is known for his political satires and this time he has taken up a very important subject Corruption. The movie is based on Dwarika Anand's fight against the system of corruption and the other characters of the movie lend him support against this fight.
Dwarika Anand(Amitabh Bachchan)is an honest retired teacher with an honest engineer son whose best friend Manav(Ajay Devgn) is a hot shot corporate bad man, who will go to any lenghts for acquisition. There is an alteraction between Dwarka and Manav due to their ideologies. Then there is a journalist(Kareena Kapoor)wo is quite brave and is feared by the head honchos of politics too .
The story starts with Dwarka's son dying and the Home Minister(Manoj Bajpai) declaring Rs 25 lakh compensation to be handed over to his wife .But conveniently forgets to deliver. Here in start the fight of Dwarka with the corrupt system in which he has to face jail term too but is released from the prison, thanks too Manav who utilises social media platform for spreading Dwarka's fight against corruption and supporting him in this is Yasmin the reporter and a local Leader Arjun(Arjun Rampal).Their fight is against the corrupt system ,the corrupt Home Minister and the government.
The movie is based on Gandhiji's ideologies and also inspired by the fights of Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwals against the corrupt system .Under Prakash Jha's direction the movie has become iconic .
Amitabh Bbachchan has given a powerful performance and his character has much resemblance with Gandhi,Ajay Devgn toohas depiicted his character initially of an immoral man and being influenced by Amitabh bachchan changes into a philanthropist.Kareena Kapoor has done justice to her character of a journalist who joins amitabh in his fight against corruption but Arjun Rampal has done decent job,Manoj Bajpai has on the other hand sailed through his role of a corrupt politician.Amrita Rao is impressive in her cameo.
The music is inspiring and the cinematography is outstanding making you feel a part of the Satyagraha.and hats off to Prakash Jha to make such a realistic film in times of commercialisation of cinema .
In all a must watch for the younger generation .
